The new iPhones use a different kind of plug to charge and connect to your computer, known as the Lightning connector. Older versions of the iPhone (iPhone 4S and earlier) use a 30-pin connector.
If you have any accessories designed to work with the 30-pin connector, such as a a car charger, you will need to buy an adapter from the Apple Store, or buy accessories that are designed to work with the Lightning connector.
