Normally Apple would start selling SIM free iPhones a couple of months after their release. For example the iPhone 5s was available SIM free from the Apple Store in December 2013, over two months after the initial release.
The T-Mobile contract free is essentially a locked iPhone that you buy at full retail price from the Apple Store.I suspect that the iPhone 6 will be available SIM free in December or so.
