CarPlay's launch date depends on the individual car manufacturers. Apple officially announced CarPlay (originally branded as "iOS in the Car") at the Geneva Motor Show back in early March. At the time, Volvo, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz announced that they would have CarPlay integrated in their vehicles by the end of 2014. Many other automakers announced plans to integrate sometime in 2015.
At this point, both Mercedes and Volvo have pushed back CarPlay availability into 2015. Volvo says that its new XC90 will come with CarPlay, but that it won't be fully functional until 2015.
The long and the short of it is that you should check with individual manufacturers for availability dates. We will update this faq as specific dates are announced by manufacturers, so check back.
