The Apple MFi Program is a licensing program for iOS device accessories and technologies manufactured by third-party companies. The acronym MFi stands for "Made for iPhone", "Made for iPod", or "Made for iPad". Associated logos can be used for product promotion with approval from Apple.
Apple performance standards must be met for a product to be certified MFi. Apple offers proprietary hardware connectors and components, testing tools, technical information and support to electronic accessory developers and manufacturers who join the Mfi Program. Royalties associated with MFi Manufacturing Licenses are confidential.
Made for iPod was originally launched in 2005. The program was renamed MFi in 2012, alongside the launch of the Apple Lightning connector.
